General Info

If you’re exploring dining spots around San Francisco, there’s something quietly satisfying about discovering a place that delivers both comfort and consistency. House Of Hunan Restaurant is one of those Chinese restaurants that feels easy to return to, whether you’re stopping by for a quick lunch or settling in for a relaxed dinner.

Walking in, the vibe leans toward casual and welcoming. It’s the kind of diner-style setting where solo dining feels natural, and the wheelchair accessible seating makes it approachable for everyone. The focus here isn’t flashy decor-it’s the food, the menu variety, and the overall experience that keeps people coming back.

One of the standout things about the menu is how it balances familiar comfort food with a few distinctive highlights. The Curry Fried Rice is rich and aromatic, offering a warm, slightly spiced flavor that feels hearty without being overwhelming. On the other hand, the Chicken & Vegetables Fried Rice keeps things lighter, with a clean, well-balanced taste that works well for lunch.

If you’re in the mood for noodles, the shrimp chow mein (虾球炒面) is a solid pick. It’s savory, satisfying, and packed with texture. For something more comforting, especially on cooler days, the beef stew wonton with noodle soup (牛腩云吞汤面) delivers depth and warmth. The broth feels slow-cooked, and every bite has that homemade quality that’s hard to fake.

To balance the meal, the Thai Milk Tea adds a sweet, creamy finish. It’s a small detail, but it rounds out the experience nicely, especially if you’re dining in and taking your time.

Service here is straightforward and efficient, which fits the overall tone of the place. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite during a busy day or sitting down for a more relaxed dinner, the flow feels smooth and unpretentious. It’s clear that the focus is on delivering good food without unnecessary fuss.

From a reviewer’s perspective, what stands out most is the consistency. The location is convenient, the menu is reliable, and the overall experience feels genuine. It’s not trying to be something it’s not-and that’s exactly why it works.

What customers say?

“ The portions are generous, and the chef and server are always kind and greet me with smiles. The dishes I’ve tried so far are all decent. ”

“ Our go to at the neighborhood. The portions are generous, the flavors are bold yet balanced, and every dish feels like it’s made with love. The cozy atmosphere, paired with attentive service, makes it perfect for a casual dinner or takeout. ”

“ House of Hunan is a family run restaurant serving traditional Chinese dishes. This is not a fancy place but it offers good food in a nice and clean setting. Chicken dumplings with Szechuan sauce and Onion Pancakes are savory starters. We also tried soup, different fried rice and noodles along with Basil Chicken and they were excellent. Thai milk tea was disappointing though. The service is super efficient and helpful although it will lack basic courtesy since the owner is not a native English speaker. The restaurant always seems empty since it looks like most of the people order online. There is plenty of street parking available nearby. Park on the side of South Beach Marina Apartments leasing office side since the street parking is free over there. Overall this is a decent place to dine when you just need to fill up your tummy and don't care about great dinning experience. ”

“ Tasty and hits the spot on a cool night. Fairly quick and friendly service. There were a lot of to go orders picked up while we waited. The dishes came out sizzling hot and large portions. 3 entrees were more than plenty for 3 hungry individuals to share. We finished every bite! Happy to have an above average Chinese restaurant nearby and looking forward to going back. ”

“ Unassuming neighborhood Chinese food staple. It’s got all the basic Chinese comfort foods you’ll need, and the quality and portions are good enough to hit the spot and still have some left overs. I love getting their combos when I’m famished. ”

- Victoria Seto -

“ Excellent service and great food Great, sesame chicken, Mongolian beef, prawns, with scrambled eggs over rice ”

- Juan Rodriguez -

“ The food was good, prices are great, and they were open on Jan 1st (and not full of people like nearby place). What else can you ask for? ”

- Dennis Golomazov -

“ Both me and my wife agreed that the food is good. Will be back again ”
